Active Transportation Alliance has twice partnered with the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) to develop a bike and paddle user guide, covering Lake, Porter and La Porte Counties, Northeastern Illinois, and Southwestern Michigan. 

The map features all existing trails, corridors identified for future trail development, boat launch sites, and on-street routes recommended for bike travel, which were developed in partnership with the region’s cycling community.

Using a color-coding system, the map ranks on-road routes as suitable for beginning cyclists, cyclists with moderate tolerance for traffic, and cyclists with a high tolerance for traffic.
